So I bought a hot glue gun because I saw one in hobbycraft. I always thought that I had TONS of projects that I wanted to make, if only I had a glue gun to make them. So all excited, I bought it, got home and… couldn’t think of a single thing I wanted to make.
Lucky for me I have an adorable niece. She’s not actually my niece, she is the daughter of a friend from college, but we call ourselves her Aunties and she’s always happy to see us (except for a while after Auntie K yelled over some spilt hot tea) so it’s close enough. So anytime I am craving a little craft action with no particular project in mind, I usually create something useless fun for her. Like this Initial Button Canvas. Totally useless but fun for me to make!
This is the finished product. It was pretty simple, I just selected a load of buttons (I keep these around the house in ridiculous quantities) in varying shades of pink and arranged them over the canvas in the shape of a C (mini nieces initial). It took a while to get them arranged in a way that I liked and was obviously a C. But I persevered.
Once I got them where I wanted them… you guessed it, I glue gunned them into place. I loved doing this. It was so easy. Not that this is a challenging project. But still, I was surprised by the easiness. Must look up more hot glue gun projects. The edges were a little bare and I originally wanted to write ‘Cute as a…’ And stick a large bright coloured button at the end but I chickened out and decided to add some ribbon. I was going to glue this down but it would’ve left dark patches on the ribbon that would’ve ruined the whole thing.
In the end I got creative and tied the ribbon like so. It also means that I can go back and add the cute as a button later when I have more time and a pen that wont bleed on the canvas.
So there you have it. Quick, easy and fun for me. Never mind whether C liked it!
